Scenic Journeys

Travel aboard Switzerland's most iconic railways, connecting Alpine landscapes, mountain villages, historic cities, and unforgettable views along the way.

Multi-day rail journeys across Switzerland and beyond

Every journey here is a complete itinerary rather than a single train ride — eleven to fifteen days in First Class, moving from one city to the next by rail and stopping where the landscape is worth the time.

Some stay within Switzerland, following the Glacier Express and the Bernina Express through the Alps. Others begin in London, Paris or Amsterdam and run on into the Bernese Oberland and northern Italy.

Why travel by rail

  • First Class travel throughout, on the routes the Swiss network is known for.
  • City centre to city centre — no airports, no hire car, no long transfers.
  • The Glacier Express and the Bernina Express cross the Alps rather than skirting them.
  • Historic cities, mountain villages and lakeside towns on a single itinerary.
  • Eleven to fifteen days, so the scenery is the journey rather than the gap between hotels.

Our rail journeys

Every itinerary we run, from thirteen days in the Swiss Alps to fifteen across four countries.

What First Class means on these routes

On the panoramic trains it is a reserved window seat beneath the curved glass, with room to move and meals that can be served at your seat. On the intercity legs between cities it is a quieter carriage and space to spread out a map.

When to travel

The panoramic routes run all year. Winter puts snow on the Bernina Pass and the Landwasser Viaduct; summer opens the high passes and the walking above Grindelwald and Zermatt. Spring and autumn are quieter, and the light through the Alps is at its best.
