About this experience

Your guide will meet you at your hotel or residence and accompany you by tram to the train station. During the journey, you will receive an introduction to the city, including its history, culture, and daily life in Switzerland.

From there, you will travel with your guide to Chur, the oldest city in Switzerland and the capital of Graubünden. Along the way, your guide will provide commentary on the regions you pass through, explaining the history of the Swiss cantons, the development of the Swiss Confederation, and the cultural heritage that has shaped modern Switzerland. Upon arrival in Chur, you will learn about this historic Alpine city, known for its remarkably preserved old town, religious landmarks, and role as the gateway to some of Switzerland’s most famous mountain railways.

In Chur, you will board the Glacier Express and settle into your comfortable First Class carriage for one of Switzerland's most celebrated rail journeys. As the train makes its way through the dramatic landscapes of Graubünden and the Oberalp region, your guide will share stories about local traditions, mountain communities, and the engineering achievements that made travel through the Alps possible. You will pass deep valleys, mountain villages, soaring bridges, and panoramic alpine scenery before reaching the highest point of the route at Oberalp Pass. A freshly prepared lunch will be served onboard while you enjoy the spectacular views through the train's panoramic windows.

Upon arrival in Andermatt, you will continue by train toward Lucerne. During the journey, your guide will introduce you to Central Switzerland and explain the origins of the Swiss Confederation, founded in 1291. As the route follows the shores of Lake Lucerne and passes through scenic countryside, you will learn about the historic alliances, battles, and traditions that contributed to the formation of modern Switzerland.

Once in Lucerne, you will enjoy a guided walking tour through one of Switzerland's most charming cities. Strolling through the picturesque Old Town, your guide will explain Lucerne's medieval history and cultural significance. Highlights include the famous Chapel Bridge, Europe's oldest covered wooden bridge, and the Lion Monument, which commemorates the Swiss Guards who lost their lives during the French Revolution.

After the tour, your guide will accompany you back to your hotel or residence, marking the end of a memorable journey through some of Switzerland's most historic cities and spectacular alpine landscapes.
