Glacier Express & LAAX Alpine Experience

Your guide will greet you at the meeting point before accompanying you on a full-day experience combining one of Switzerland's most celebrated rail journeys with the high alpine landscapes of the LAAX region.

The day begins aboard the Glacier Express between Brig and Chur, a route renowned for connecting some of the most remote and dramatic regions of the Swiss Alps. Travelling through the upper Rhône Valley, the train gradually climbs into the mountains, offering ever-changing views of forests, alpine meadows, traditional villages, and rugged peaks.

One of the highlights of the journey is the Oberalp Pass, the highest point of the Glacier Express at 2,033 metres above sea level. Here, the landscape opens into broad mountain scenery that remains snow-covered well into spring. As the train continues eastward, the scenery shifts once again as it enters the Rhine Gorge, a deep valley carved by the Rhine River over thousands of years. Often referred to as the "Swiss Grand Canyon," the gorge reveals striking limestone cliffs, wooded slopes, and winding river views visible through the train's panoramic windows.

The route is also known for its remarkable engineering achievements. Along the Albula line, the railway crosses numerous bridges and spiral tunnels designed to navigate the challenging mountain terrain. Among them, the Landwasser Viaduct stands out as one of Switzerland's most iconic railway structures, curving gracefully into a tunnel carved directly into the rock face.

After arriving in the Graubünden region, continue to LAAX, where modern mountain lifts provide access to some of the area's most impressive alpine viewpoints. Ascending above the villages of Flims and Laax, the landscape quickly transforms into a world of high ridges, open slopes, and expansive mountain panoramas.

At Crap Sogn Gion, situated at 2,228 metres, visitors can enjoy sweeping views across the surrounding Alps and deep valleys below. The area offers a relaxed opportunity to appreciate the scale of the mountain environment while taking in the scenery from panoramic terraces and short walking paths. On clear days, the views extend across large parts of eastern Switzerland, creating a memorable contrast to the landscapes experienced earlier aboard the Glacier Express.

Your visit concludes in the LAAX mountain region before returning with your guide to the original meeting point, bringing an end to a day of scenic rail travel and alpine landscapes.
