Your guide will meet and greet you at the designated meeting point before providing an overview of the day's adventure.
As you travel through Lucerne, you'll learn about the city's history, culture, and traditions before setting off to explore one of Switzerland's most beautiful lake and mountain landscapes.
The experience begins with a scenic cruise across Lake Lucerne from Lucerne to Vitznau. As you sail through the lake's winding arms, your guide will explain the geography and history of this remarkable body of water, surrounded by steep mountains, historic villages, and dramatic Alpine scenery. Along the route, enjoy views of Mt. Pilatus, Mt. Rigi, Bürgenstock, the vineyard-covered slopes along the lakeshore, and the distant peaks of the Glarus Alps. The relaxing cruise offers a unique perspective of central Switzerland and its stunning natural landscapes.
Upon arrival in Vitznau, your guide will accompany you aboard the historic Mt. Rigi Railway for an unforgettable ascent towards the summit. As the train climbs the mountainside, your guide will introduce the heritage of Mt. Rigi and explain the pioneering engineering achievements that made the railway possible. Opened in 1871, the Vitznau-Rigi Railway became the first mountain rack railway in Europe and helped establish Switzerland's reputation for innovative mountain transport.
During the ascent, enjoy sweeping views across the surrounding valleys, lakes, and mountain ranges while learning about the history of the railway and the vision of engineer Niklaus Riggenbach. Reaching a height of 1,752 metres above sea level, Mt. Rigi became one of the most popular mountain destinations in the Alps and continues to attract visitors from around the world.
At the summit, take time to appreciate the spectacular panoramas stretching across central Switzerland. Weather permitting, the views extend across numerous lakes, Alpine peaks, and the surrounding countryside. There will be ample opportunities to take memorable photographs while your guide shares stories about the mountain's significance to Swiss tourism and mountain exploration.
After enjoying the scenery atop Mt. Rigi, your guide will accompany the group back to the original meeting point.
