About this experience

Your private guide will meet and greet you at your hotel or residence before accompanying you on a cross-border journey connecting eastern Switzerland's cultural heritage with one of Europe's most famous castles.

The day begins in St. Gallen, a city whose history is closely linked to the monastery founded by the Irish monk Gallus in the 7th century. Over the centuries, the settlement grew into one of the most important centres of learning and scholarship in medieval Europe. Today, its historic core, together with the Abbey District, forms a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

At the heart of the city stands the magnificent Abbey of Saint Gall and its world-renowned library. Considered one of the oldest and most beautiful libraries in the world, it houses an extraordinary collection of manuscripts and books that preserve centuries of European intellectual and cultural history. As you explore the abbey district, your guide will explain how St. Gallen became a place where knowledge, religion, and craftsmanship flourished for generations.

Beyond the abbey, wander through the charming Old Town, where colourful bay windows, elegant façades, and narrow streets tell the story of a city enriched by trade and textile production. The architectural details that decorate many of the buildings remain among St. Gallen's most distinctive features and contribute to its unique character.

From Switzerland, continue into Bavaria, where the landscape gradually transforms into rolling hills, forests, and alpine scenery. Rising dramatically above the surrounding countryside, Neuschwanstein Castle soon comes into view.

Commissioned by King Ludwig II of Bavaria in the nineteenth century, the castle is one of the most recognisable landmarks in Europe. Inspired by medieval legends, romantic architecture, and the operas of Richard Wagner, Ludwig created a residence that reflected his imagination rather than the practical needs of a royal court. The result is a structure that appears to belong more to folklore than history.

Perched high above the Hohenschwangau Valley, Neuschwanstein combines dramatic architecture with a spectacular mountain setting. Its towers, turrets, and white limestone walls have captivated visitors for generations and are often said to have inspired some of the world's most famous fairy-tale castles.

As you admire the castle and its surroundings, your guide will share the story of King Ludwig II, whose vision created one of Germany's most visited landmarks and one of the most photographed castles in the world.

Your visit concludes at Neuschwanstein Castle, bringing an end to a memorable exploration of medieval heritage, monastic culture, and Bavarian royal history. Relax during the scenic return journey as your guide accompanies you back to your hotel or residence, reflecting on a day of history, culture, and Alpine scenery.
