About this experience
Your guide will meet you at your hotel or residence before accompanying you to Zermatt, one of Switzerland's most famous mountain destinations.
The day begins with time to explore Zermatt Village, where you'll learn how a small farming community evolved into a world-renowned Alpine resort. Surrounded by the peaks of the Pennine Alps, the village is known for its traditional wooden chalets, mountain scenery and relaxed, car-free atmosphere. Along the way, your guide will share stories from Zermatt's past and explain the events that shaped the village into the destination it is today.
Set beneath the iconic Matterhorn and close to the Monte Rosa massif, Zermatt offers some of the most impressive mountain scenery in Switzerland. The village itself is compact and easy to explore, with local boutiques, cafés and restaurants lining its charming streets. During your visit, you'll have time to soak in the atmosphere and experience a corner of Swiss mountain life that continues to attract visitors from around the world.
The tour continues aboard the historic Gornergrat Railway, Switzerland's first electric rack railway, which has been carrying passengers into the mountains since 1898. As the train climbs above Zermatt, the views become increasingly spectacular, revealing glaciers, alpine landscapes and some of the highest peaks in the country. Along the journey, your guide will provide insight into the railway's history and the remarkable engineering involved in its construction.
At the summit of Gornergrat, there is time to enjoy one of Switzerland's most celebrated viewpoints. On clear days, visitors can admire the Matterhorn, the Monte Rosa region, the Dufourspitze and a panorama of glaciers and mountain peaks stretching across the horizon. The area is also a popular starting point for alpine walks and offers plenty of opportunities for photography and quiet moments to take in the scenery.
After a full day in the Swiss Alps, your guide will accompany you back and ensure a comfortable return to your hotel or residence.
