Schaffhausen and Rhine Falls sit close together but offer two very different experiences. One is a story told through medieval streets and painted facades. The other is raw natural force that no photograph quite prepares you for.

Your guide meets you at your hotel and travels with you to Schaffhausen, one of the best-preserved historic towns in Switzerland. Walking through the old quarter, you will pass the Monastery of All Saints, founded around 1050, while your guide shares stories of the town including a little-known chapter from 1944 when American aircraft mistakenly bombed neutral Switzerland during World War II.

From there, the tour continues to Rhine Falls. At 150 metres wide, it is the largest waterfall in Europe by volume, and one of the few that has never been diverted for hydroelectric power. The sound reaches you before the view does. A boat ride takes you towards the central rock at the heart of the falls, putting you close enough to feel the spray and understand the scale in a way the viewing platforms alone cannot.
